To require the Secretary of Homeland Security to collect certain information, which shall be kept confidential, from applicants for registered provisional immigrant status for the purpose of understanding immigration trends.

The application form referred to in paragraph (1) shall col- lect such information as the Secretary de- termines to be necessary and appropriate, including, for the purpose of understanding immigration trends an explanation of how, when, and where the alien entered the United States; ‘‘(II) the country in which the alien resided before entering the United States; and ‘‘(III) other demographic infor- mation specified by the Secretary. ‘‘(ii) PRIVACY PROTECTIONS.—Infor- mation described in subclauses (I) through (III) of clause (i), which is collected on the application form referred to in paragraph shall be subject to the confidentiality provisions set forth in section 9 of title 13, United States Code.
